The Wilberforce Trust has been supporting people with sight loss since it’s days as the Yorkshire School for the blind. Since 2017 we extended our support to people living with hearing loss and sight loss.
The Yorsensory service is unique in that we are the only service in York for registrations and assessments. Our team can register and provide you with a full assessment if you wanted one, for yourself or a loved one, and then we can advise if you are entitled to equipment, as well as risks and needs. We can discuss over the phone, in person in your home or at our Hub in Huntington. We also be providing a similar service on the mobile sensory van outreach service.
If you need help with day-to-day tasks, have any concerns or issues about your living arrangements or how your life has changed, then speak with one of our trained professionals who are experts in assessment, registration and rehabilitation. Our goals are to promote independence and safety and make your day to day living a far better experience. Registration is optional as is an assessment so even if you choose not to be registered – though we are happy to explain the benefits of registration – you can still come in for advice. We are always available and willing to demo products and discuss service that may be of interest to you.
Our Yorsensory service provides support, advice, equipment demonstration and a mobile outreach van that will travel into local communities.
We also have a new Tinnitus group as well as our successful Connect Cafe. Come and join us!
There is also a drop in service at York City council offices (west offices) from 1-4pm for help and advice with our Community Sensory Advisor.
