Support Workers are needed for our Tadcaster homes

We have Full time, Part time and Flexi Hour Vacancies.

The average salary for full time staff is £16,000 to £18,000 per year.

Staff receive 20 days holidays plus bank holidays, increasing to 25 days plus bank holidays after 2 years’ service. An additional pay review is pending.

As York’s oldest charity the Wilberforce Trust has been providing support for the visually impaired for over 150 years. Today our vision is to create a world where all people with sight loss, including those with other disabilities, are truly integrated in society. With nine Wilberforce houses across York and Tadcaster, our Support Workers provide support to our Tenants who have visual impairments and other disabilities. We are a friendly charity who really care about our tenants, most of whom have been with us for many years.

We are currently looking for support workers to work with tenants with multiple disabilities and learning difficulties to work in Tadcaster and York. We are looking for exceptional support workers who would enjoy working with tenants with behaviours which may prove challenging.

Support workers provide daily support and personal care, including assisting and administering medication. Duties may also include arranging daily activities, taking our tenants out on trips and activities, helping to prepare meals or attending sensory sessions at Wilberforce House. We also encourage tenants to develop and maintain positive relationships with family and friends.

Experience and Skills Required

Previous experience is desirable but not essential, as we provide a comprehensive induction and training programme. However a caring and sensitive nature is important, along with an ability to work well in a team. We also require a good level of written and spoken English. Time spent caring for family members is relevant experience for this role.

Although not essential, an S/NVQ level 2 in care or equivalent would be beneficial or you should be prepared to work towards this qualification.

There are opportunities to progress within the organisation, gain recognised qualifications including NVQ level 2 to 5, and take on ‘Champion’ roles with additional responsibilities.

We try to arrange shifts to suit our staff, but we do require some flexibility around hours worked.

Because of the nature of the role a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Certificate will be required before commencing work at the Trust.
