Wilberforce tenant Stephen, who lives in one of the trust’s York houses, is delighted to be doing his first ever job, especially as it is at York Minster where he regularly attends services and bell-ringing practices. Now he spends one hour every week inside the West door of York’s iconic building greeting visitors and offering them information. At the moment, until Easter, Stephen is handing visitors leaflets outlining the programmes and activities for Lent at the Minster. He is hoping that later there will be a leaflet on summer activities for him to greet more visitors arriving at the West door, and maybe much later in the year one for Christmas activities.
Stephen is particularly proud of the fact that he attended an interview for his voluntary role with Volunteering Manager Susan Mason, who told us “It is lovely to have him here; it is a great benefit to visitors”.
York Minster relies on no fewer than 500 volunteers covering all sorts of activities. If you would like to consider volunteering there contact Susan Mason on 01904 557236, or email her at email@example.com.
